A rare set of four small hand-painted Russian Orthodox devotional icons from the 19th century, executed in tempera on wooden panels with traditional gesso preparation. These intimate icons were created for personal prayer and were often kept in home icon corners or carried for protection during travel. The group includes revered subjects such as the Mother of God with Christ Child (including Kazan type), Saint George on horseback, and the Nativity of Christ. Their compact format reflects the tradition of small personal devotional icons widely used throughout 19th century Russia. The surfaces display authentic age wear, softened gilding, natural craquelure, and devotional patina consistent with genuine provincial workshop production of the period. Condition: Heavy age wear with paint losses, abrasions, and edge wear consistent with devotional use. Wooden panels show oxidation and historic handling marks on the reverse.
