An Impresiive 19th century Russian Orthodox icon executed in tempera on gessoed wooden panel, depicting a solemn assembly of revered hierarch saints beneath the Mother of God enthroned with the Christ Child. At the upper center, the Mother of God presents Christ in a traditional Hodegetria-type representation, symbolizing divine intercession over the Church. Below stands a distinguished gathering of ecclesiastical fathers, prominently including Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, centrally positioned in episcopal vestments and omophorion. Flanking figures include Saint Dimitri and likely Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk, together with additional Orthodox hierarch saints holding Gospel books — visual emblems of apostolic authority and doctrinal guardianship. Their richly ornamented vestments and formal symmetry reflect the theological emphasis on ecclesiastical unity under heavenly protection. Such multi-hierarch compositions were often commissioned for churches or prominent households, serving both devotional and protective functions within the sacred icon corner. The luminous gilded ground, deep green border, and disciplined figural structure are consistent with established early 19th century. The reverse retains its original wooden board with traditional hanging cord and historic inscriptions, further supporting its devotional provenance. Condition: Surface wear, age-related craquelure, scattered abrasions, and devotional patina consistent with authentic 19th century use. Structurally stable panel with preserved iconographic integrity.
