This sacred Orthodox icon depicts the revered apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the chief apostles of the early Christian Church. Shown facing one another in solemn dialogue beneath the divine presence of Christ above, the composition symbolizes the unity of apostolic teaching and the spread of the Christian faith. The icon is painted in tempera on wood with a luminous gilded background, a hallmark of traditional Russian devotional icons. Saint Peter is portrayed holding a scroll representing his preaching, while Saint Paul carries the Gospel, reflecting his role as the great missionary and theologian of the Church. The refined figures, delicate facial expressions, and traditional inscriptions reflect the classical Russian iconographic tradition preserved by Orthodox painters during the 19th century. The icon remains in good antique condition, with visible age, minor abrasions, craquelure, and natural patina consistent with its historical devotional use.
