A compelling and richly symbolic Russian icon presenting a refined four-part composition, uniting some of the most venerated figures of Orthodox devotion. The upper register features two revered Marian types: the Smolensk Mother of God (Hodegetria), guiding the faithful toward Christ, and the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow", embodying compassion and intercession. Below, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker appears in full episcopal vestments holding the Gospel, alongside a warrior martyr, most likely Saint George, symbolizing courage, faith, and protection. Executed in traditional egg tempera on wood, the icon reflects the devotional craftsmanship of Russian provincial workshops during the late Imperial period. The composition is balanced and spiritually expressive, with finely rendered faces and harmonious tones.
