A remarkable and historically significant Russian Menologion icon, painted in egg tempera and gold leaf on a large wooden panel. The composition is organized as a liturgical calendar of saints, presenting numerous holy figures commemorated throughout the Orthodox year, while the upper center is crowned by the glorious Resurrection of Christ, the spiritual focus of the entire work. Icons of this type served as both devotional and educational objects, allowing the faithful to contemplate the saints and feast days throughout the ecclesiastical calendar. The richness of the composition, combined with the extensive number of carefully rendered figures, reflects the deep spiritual tradition of nineteenth-century Russian icon painting.
