A deeply symbolic and theologically rich composition depicting the Virgin as intercessor and consoler of the suffering. Surrounded by angels and figures representing the afflicted, the Mother of God stands centrally distributing grace and healing. This iconographic type became especially venerated in Russia from the late 17th century onward, reflecting the spiritual devotion of the faithful during times of hardship. Executed in egg tempera on wood with a gold leaf background, the icon shows refined linear drawing, delicate facial modeling, and traditional gilded ground with visible craquelure consistent with over 200 years of age. The warm earth pigments and balanced composition reflect established workshop traditions of the period. The surface presents natural aging, areas of wear, patina, and minor abrasions consistent with devotional use. Original wooden panel with dual rear support slats intact, confirming traditional construction. Sold as is, preserving its historical authenticity.
