A refined and devotional representation of the Tikhvin Mother of God, one of the most venerated miracle-working icons in Russian Orthodoxy. The Virgin tenderly inclines her head toward Christ, who sits upright in blessing, holding the scroll of divine wisdom. The icon follows the traditional Hodegetria type, symbolizing the Theotokos as “She Who Shows the Way.” The warm golden background, delicate chrysography highlights, and soft facial modeling reflect late 19th-century Russian workshop craftsmanship. Side saints are depicted in the margins, enhancing the intercessory character of the composition. Hand-painted in tempera on wood with traditional panel construction and rear slats. Condition: Age-related surface wear, minor abrasions, and natural patina consistent with period. Structurally stable wooden panel with visible traditional backing.
