A deeply moving and intimate depiction of the Mother of God, presented in the Tenderness (Umilenie) type, where the Virgin is shown in silent prayer, her hands crossed over her chest and her head gently inclined. This composition reflects humility, sorrow, and inner devotion, embodying one of the most personal and contemplative expressions within Orthodox iconography. Executed in traditional egg tempera on a wooden panel with a gold leaf background, the icon displays a refined palette of rich crimson, emerald green, and deep blue tones, framed by a bold cobalt border characteristic of the late Imperial Russian period. The facial features are delicately modeled with soft highlights, conveying a quiet spiritual depth and presence. The surface shows authentic age, with visible craquelure, wear to the gilding, and areas of paint loss.
