A large and visually powerful icon centered on the Virgin Mary in a tender, contemplative pose, surrounded by a refined cycle of scenes from her sacred life. The lower register prominently depicts the Dormition, while the upper and side panels illustrate key moments such as the Nativity and Presentation, forming a complete narrative of devotion and intercession. This type of composition reflects the deep spiritual role of the Mother of God in Orthodox tradition, presented here with balance, clarity, and presence. Executed in egg tempera on a gesso-prepared wooden panel, the icon features a luminous gold ground and disciplined line work characteristic of mid-19th century Russian workshops. The facial modeling remains soft yet structured, preserving traditional iconographic restraint while showing subtle evolution in technique. The overall composition, scale, and narrative richness indicate an important piece intended for a significant domestic or devotional setting. The icon remains largely original with strong age presence and authentic patina. A central vertical crack is visible, consistent with natural wood movement over time. There is wear and gold loss across the surface, particularly in the background, along with minor localized retouching mainly around the central fracture. No major repainting or later overpainting is observed. The reverse shows a stable multi-plank construction typical of the period.
