A traditional Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrov), one of the most important feasts in Orthodox Christianity. The composition shows the Virgin Mary standing centrally while extending her protective veil over the faithful, symbolizing divine protection and intercession for humanity. The scene includes several revered saints and church figures witnessing the miracle, along with angels above and Christ depicted in the upper section. The composition follows classic Russian iconographic tradition, with finely rendered figures, strong linear drawing, and warm ochre and red tones typical of devotional icons produced during the 19th century. The icon is painted on a wooden panel with a recessed central field and original structural crossbars on the reverse, reflecting traditional Russian icon construction methods used to stabilize the panel over time. Condition consistent with age, showing natural craquelure, surface wear, and signs of long devotional use which enhance the historical character of the icon.
