A rare and important 19th century Russian Deesis ensemble, painted in the traditional Orthodox manner. This sacred trio consists of: • Christ Pantocrator blessing and holding the open Gospel • The Mother of God in prayerful intercession • Saint John the Baptist holding the chalice with the Lamb Together they form the central Deesis composition, one of the most theologically significant arrangements in Orthodox iconography. Christ is depicted as the eternal Judge and Savior, while the Mother of God and the Forerunner stand in solemn intercession for mankind — a profound expression of mercy and divine mediation. The icons display strong 19th century Russian workshop characteristics: deep natural pigments, traditional gilded halos, refined facial modeling, and Church Slavonic inscriptions. The scale and cohesion of the three panels indicate they were conceived as a unified Deesis group for devotional or iconostasis use. As an original and authentic ensemble created together, their theological meaning and historical integrity remain fully preserved when offered as a complete set. Condition consistent with age: visible craquelure, surface wear, and devotional patina. The wooden panels remain structurally stable. One panel shows a professionally secured rear stabilization element added to reinforce the board, executed in a manner respectful of the original structure and typical for preservation of large 19th century panels.
