A powerful and deeply revered representation of Saint Nicholas, one of the most beloved miracle-working saints in Orthodox Christianity. Depicted frontally in episcopal vestments, blessing with his right hand and holding the Gospel with his left, this icon reflects the traditional hierarchical and devotional composition associated with his role as protector and intercessor. The icon retains its richly embossed brass oklad (revetment), decorated with detailed floral and geometric repoussé work surrounding the halo and borders. The original painted face and hands remain visible, executed in tempera on wood. The stylistic facial modeling, inscription style, and panel construction with dual rear support slats are consistent with Russian provincial workshops of the 19th century. The surface shows natural aging, patina, wear, and a visible crack in the painted layer beneath the oklad, all consistent with over a century of devotional use. Sold as is, preserving its historical authenticity.
