A beautiful and authentic Russian icon depicting the revered Smolensk Mother of God, one of the most important and venerated images of the Virgin in Orthodox Christianity. The Mother of God is shown holding the Christ Child in the traditional Hodegetria manner, guiding the faithful toward Christ as the source of salvation. Executed in egg tempera on wood with a luminous gold ground, the icon displays the warm palette and devotional character typical of late Imperial Russian icon painting. The finely ornamented garments, expressive faces, and traditional inscriptions contribute to its strong spiritual presence and collector appeal. The icon remains in honest antique condition with age-related wear, natural craquelure, and surtace patina consistent with its age. The original panel construction is preserved, and no major restoration is apparent from visual examination, enhancing its authenticity and historical character.
