A remarkable 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Philoxenia of Abraham, also known as the Hospitality of Abraham or the Old Testament Trinity. The composition illustrates the biblical encounter of Abraham with the three angelic visitors, traditionally understood in Orthodox Christianity as a manifestation and symbolic representation of the Holy Trinity. Hand-painted in traditional egg tempera on an original wooden panel, the icon presents the three angels seated around the table, accompanied by Abraham and Sarah offering their hospitality. The expanded narrative includes the servant preparing the calf, the Oak of Mamre, architectural elements, and the mountainous landscape, creating a richly detailed representation of this important biblical scene. The icon retains its original historical character, displaying a beautiful aged patina, traditional modeling of the figures, vivid red and green garments, and extensive gilded and metallic details.
