A devotional Russian icon depicting the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God, known in Orthodox tradition as Pokrov, one of the most beloved feasts expressing the Virgin's intercession and protection over the faithful. At the center, the Mother of God stands frontally holding the veil, surrounded by saints, clergy, and witnesses to the sacred vision, in a composition rooted in established Russian liturgical iconography. The icon is arranged in a strong multi-register format, with the upper scene devoted to the feast itself and the lower register populated by additional holy figures connected to the devotional setting. Its warm palette, gilded ground, and expressive figures reflect the character of late 19th century Russian workshop production, while preserving the solemn spiritual atmosphere expected of this important subject. Age-related wear, surface losses, and areas of abrasion are visible across the panel, consistent with long devotional use. The icon retains its original character and historic presence, and despite the visible wear, the sacred narrative remains clear and visually powerful.
