A large and impressive 19th century Russian icon of the Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrov), painted in egg tempera on wood. The composition presents the Virgin standing in glory within a radiant mandorla, surrounded by angels and saints, extending her protective veil over the faithful. The rich green background, detailed inscriptions, and expressive figures reflect traditional workshop craftsmanship of the Imperial period. The curved top panel adds to its monumental presence and devotional character. Condition: visible age-related wear, surface craquelure, and minor losses consistent with time and devotional use. Original wooden panel with back supports intact. Sold as is, preserving its authenticity and historical integrity.
